Art Culinary School
An Introduction To Cooking Schools

Art Culinary School; - With the popularity of cooking shows, first on Public Broadcasting System (PBS) and the success of The Food Channel, more individuals are interested in learning to cook - some as professionals and others as a hobby. The net result has been a fantastic growth in cooking schools across the USA. The growth has occurred in both professional accredited schools that prepare students for careers in the food industry and recreational cooking classes offered by schools, workshops or as part of a tour or vacation. Cooking classes are being offered by restaurants for their customers as well as specialty grocery chains. Often, a well known guest chef will be the teacher at the cooking class.

The professional art culinary school will last from 6 months to 4 years where a college degree will be awarded to successful candidates depending depending upon the course selected. The recreational cooking classes vary in length from a two hour one time class to up to two weeks of instructions.

Many community colleges are also offering recreational specialty cooking classes. Many of these classes are "hands-on" where the students get to eat the meal that is prepared during the class. Special classes are offered to couples or mother and daughter. These recreational cooking classes typically have a pre-published menu that will be prepared such as Italian or grilling or French style cooking.

The professional schools, that are preparing students for a career as a - chef, restaurant management, nutrition, dietician, food research and/or food sales - have set curriculums that the students must partake in a competitive environment with mandatory projects and tests. Whereas the recreational schools are just that - a fun time for all. Both of these types of schools have a place in our society - the art culinary school for the career oriented student and the recreational cooking experience for the hobbyist.

We have attempted to list schools that hold classes - both professional and recreational - in different geographic areas of the USA. Contact the identified source for more details.
