Outdoor Kitchen
A Great New Lifestyle

Outdoor kitchen - Today, homes are being designed to incorporate more of the owner's lifestyle. A couple of years ago media rooms burst on the scene. Every new home had to have a media room. Patios and pools have been part of home design for the past twenty-plus years. Entertaining took place on the patio or pool area. Now the combining of entertaining and gourmet cooking have become the fashion. Used to be that the cooking would be done outside on the grill. Well, outdoor grills have become very sophisticated appliances. Many have side-burners and storage cabinets. It was only natural for the evolution of the concept of an outdoor kitchen.

The movement to outdoor cooking and entertaining has become the rage. Especially in the southern states where outside entertaining and cooking can be done all year. There can be many variations of an outdoor concept. It can be a permanent design, with all appliances in fixed and non movable locations. Or it can be a movable design. In such case all pieces of the kitchen are mounted on wheels which allows the pieces to be moved easily but then locked into place.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both concepts.
1. With movable pieces you can keep them if you move or sell your home.
2. With movable pieces you can easily rearrange or add new gadgets/appliances.
3. You must have access to utility connections - electric, water and gas - you do not want wires and pipes lying on the ground where your guests can trip over them.

Manufacturers today are providing components that work well with "a movable flexible" design. Typical components that can be included in the concept are - grill, side-burners, oven, refrigerator, sink, cabinets and work surface.

The typical an cost can range from as low as $2-3,000 to as much as you want to spend for a custom permanent fixture concept. Your budget and lifestyle will dictate how much you want to invest.
