Portable grills are becoming very popular for tailgating as well as other activities. Anytime space is limited - traveling, camping, tailgating for example - this is your answer. They come in many variations including table top, compact standing models and folding models. There are models available using propane or charcoal briquettes and are priced from $30 to $300 depending upon size, features and quality.
Portable grills are becoming more sophisticated and capable of providing great food. Even though they are usually small, there is no reason to expect less quality food. Since portable grills are normally small, the grilling area is usually smaller too. Thus, the cook-master is usually cooking for a smaller number of people. Fewer people means there will be much less food to attend to on the grill. There will be less variation of heat across the cooking surface because of its small size. Thus, one can expect success every time. I have personally used a portable table top, folding Coleman charcoal model with great success. Charcoal is great in this size grill. The grill heats very quickly and you will have an even temperature over the grill surface. When using charcoal in the grill, create an aluminum foil liner for the bottom of the grill. Put the charcoal on the liner and light the fire. After you are done cooking and the charcoal has turned to ashes, it is very easy to clean by carefully rolling up the aluminum foil to contain the ashes. By using aluminum foil every time you use charcoal, you will keep your model much cleaner with less work.
